Foodie Friday- The Perfect White Plate

I'd like you to meet the thorn in my kitchen's side:

Yes, my dishes. I bought them the summer before my sophomore year of college with money I made waiting tables at On the Border. I loved them so much at the time and they have lasted me ten years. However, the time has come to say sayonara to my swirly, colorful dishes.

When I bought these, my version of cooking was pouring ranch dressing on my plate to go with my delivery pizza. Nothing that required more work than boiling was ever served on them until they were very nicely worn in.

I have come a long way in the last ten years, and have decided to get plates that can properly showcase the things that lovingly come out of my kitchen.  So no more patterns, no more swirls, no more colors.  I want white, simple, with clean lines.

So here's where you come in! I have found two styles that I love, but can't decide between them. One is more classic with the round edge all around it and the other is more modern and pretty much perfectly flat. I need help!

A little inspiration on my style and what my kitchen currently looks like:
Aspen vs. Essential

And my two options:

(The Aspen mugs are the only thing I'm sure about- even if I go with the Essential dishes.)

Despite my modern style, I like the classic lines of the Aspen, but I like the unrestricted surface that the Essential provides. Without any borders, you could do fun stuff like so:
Puff Pastry Wrapped Pork Chop with Sun Dried Tomato Risotto and salad in a parmesan bowl

So foodies, newlyweds, bloggers, or anyone else that might have an interest in such matters as The Perfect White Plate... any thoughts, preferences, or words of wisdom? I am literally torn 50/50 so I welcome your feedback with open arms.

Thank you in advance!

I also love a good white plate! When I got married I got the "Halo" collection from Crate & Barrel and have been really happy with it. I think out of your two favorites I really like the Aspen, they are similar to my Halo dishes.

Love white plates. Okay, love any plates. I'm a dish fanatic. I'd have 10 sets if I had the room.

Hard choice! If I was picking for my kitchen, I'd go with the Aspen because I like a slighly more traditional design. But I think your kitchen (based on the inspiration picture)has a really awesome modern vibe. So I'd go with the Essential. It just looks a touch more modern to me. So basically what I'm saying is, I think they're both great. That helps, right? haha

I also have to recommend my favorite white plates - the Crate & Barrel appetizer plates. I know you like to entertain and cook for friends - I think you'd love these. They're perfect to set out with appetizers when you're having people over to watch a game or for dinner. They're small, cheap and easily washed in the dishwasher. I love them. One of my favorite registry items.

Buy one of each plate, use them and see which you like best.

Essential. Why you ask. Because the design of the plate will allow any neurotic person that hates it when their food touches to put a number of selections/servings on their plate without fear of a pea touching a rissoto . . . hahahaha

I think you will like the Essential better. they seem more Natalie to me. :) And when you take pics of your delishes meals, they will look a million times better on the Essential plates without the ridge in the middle. plates with ridges in the middle tend to slope more too.
