27 Weeks

*Sorry for the headless photo, it's been a makeup-free kind of a week around here.

How far along?  27 weeks.

How big is the baby this week?  Head of cauliflower / 14 1/2 inches long.

Total Weight Gain?  16 pounds.

Maternity Clothes?  Yes, although any and all maternity pants get exchanged for pj pants the second I get home.

Best Moment of the Week?  DOMINATING our to do list. After weeks of feeling like we were just spinning our wheels, we got so much done this weekend.  We are ripping out the floors in almost half of our house (nursery included) and we finally decided on and ordered the wood.  We also got his room painted thanks to my awesome parents. It's such a good feeling to see progress being made.

Trouble Sleeping?  Still decent although I have starting having leg/foot cramps this week. Sometimes I feel like I read these pregnancy updates where it says "you may start to feel some cramping in your calves" and my body is like "oh, fantastic idea! I hadn't thought of that!" because this stuff always seems to start happening right on cue.

Miss Anything?  Not really this week.  Maybe just normal pants. Maternity pants are starting to annoy me.

Movement?  Tons.

Food Cravings?  Carbs and sweets. We went on a donut run on Saturday which nicely fulfilled both of those cravings.

Belly Button - In or Out?  In, kind of. It's definitely starting to give way. The top half is poking out but the bottom half is holding on for dear life. I give it another two weeks.

Symptoms?  Hungry! We ate dinner last night and 30 minutes later I had to have a bowl of cereal. I finally went out and bought some healthier snack options since our pantry is so loaded up with cookies.

Wedding Ring - Off or on? On

Happy or Moody?  Happy for the most part. We attempted to make pizzas on the Big Green Egg on Saturday which as it turns out, is the most impossible thing ever. I was already starving and I may have screamed at the pizza dough in a fit of hangriness. I think I may have scared my husband a bit.

Looking Forward to?  Our last sono next week!  I didn't realize that your last one is typically at that 16-20 week appointment unless there's a need for another one. Since I have partial placenta previa, we have to go in for what should be the last time to see if everything has corrected itself. I'm obviously hoping everything looks good, but the silver lining if not is continued sonograms. It's been two and half months since our last one so I can't wait to see how much he's fattened up!

Baby Registry Recommendations

Like any new mom-to-be, I did a ton of research before we registered. I found Amazon to be the most helpful due to all the reviews (once I had it narrowed down), but if I didn't even know where to start blogs were so incredibly helpful as well. It's nice to hear what other moms have loved and hated. So I thought I would share some of my favorite finds here in case someone else out there is in the same position.

Keep in mind that not having a baby yet, I have NO IDEA what I'm doing or if this stuff is even as great as it's touted to be. So take this for what's it's worth, but these are a few things that ended up on our registry thanks to glowing praise from those that DO have experience.

1. Infantino Squeeze Station - I think those self-serve pouches of baby food are so convenient, but after seeing the video of the mom cutting one open to find maggots, I just can't get the image out of my head. I love to cook anyways, so I figured we'd give a homemade version a try. I will know exactly what's going in them and they will most definitely be maggot free- win/win! This thing makes it easy to fill them up.
2. Infantino Grow-with-me Activity Gym and Ball Pit -  I have resigned myself to the fact that baby crap will soon take over our house. It's just a fact of life. However, if I can find products that will multitask and serve a purpose longer longer than average, sign me up. I found this play mat (activity gym?) that doubles as a ball pit! So once the baby is too old to lay under it and stare up at the dangly things, you can pull the sides of it up and throw all the balls in there with them to play with. Brilliant!
3. Fisher-Price Newborn Rock 'n Play Sleeper, Rainforest Friends - This was something I was against initially. I didn't see the point when you likely have a swing and a pack and play since it seemed like a combination of those two things, but damn if everyone doesn't just swear by it. I mean, people are PASSIONATE about these things. This one wasn't ridiculously expensive and had good ratings.
4. 4moms Rockaroo - This just came out a couple months ago. Apparently the first version (the mamaroo) didn't actually swing but this one does. I love that it has a smaller footprint than the traditional swings. And with a more modern design, it's actually kind of nice looking for a piece of baby gear.
5. Motorola MBP36 Remote Wireless Video Baby Monitor with 3.5-Inch Color LCD Screen, Infrared Night Vision and Remote Camera Pan, Tilt, and Zoom - I initially registered for a cheaper model that apparently didn't pan which my helpful girlfriends quickly veto'd on my behalf. This seems to be a tried and true favorite. It tilts, zooms, and has a two way talking feature. My friend Jules uses this in the summertime to ask her husband to bring her another beer when he's inside checking on the baby and she's in the pool. Sounds like a solid choice to me.
6. Tommee Tippee Milk Feeding Bib Blue - I'm told that these are very useful in the early stages and prevent milk dribbling down under their neck and getting all over your child.
7. Chewbeads Hudson Necklace in Turquoise - Cute jewelry that your baby can also chew on. Another thing that I wish I had thought of. I would probably wear this even without a teething baby.
8. Planet Wise Diaper Wet Bag - We are not cloth diapering our little guy- as much as I would love to be that environmentally conscious. However, these are said to be great to have in your diaper bag for a host of other things beyond dirty cloth diapers (soiled clothing, etc).
9. Baby Jogger City Select Single Stroller, Onyx - By far the item of baby gear I am most excited about. I researched this sucker like it was my job. After talking to many friends and realizing that most of them had like 84 strollers, I was determined to find one that would give us the best shot at being our "everything" stroller. I honestly think that we may have come close. My favorite thing about it is that it is completely convertible- you can pop our carseat onto it, use it as a single when he's a toddler and down the road it has the capability to convert to a double via another seat or even one of those glider boards. It's "joggerish" and handles well without being massive and folds up fairly compactly. And you can buy a 6-pack cooler accessory for it. Not that we intend on doing that or anything…
10. Vulli Sophie the Giraffe Teether - Apparently they double check to make sure you have a Sophie before they'll let you leave the hospital with a child these days. Not sure what the fuss is about, but who am I to deny our baby his overpriced giraffe right of passage?
11. Boon Flair Pedestal Highchair with Pneumatic Lift - This was definitely in the top five things I researched as well. After attending several one year old birthday parties and seeing cake smushed into every crevice of a fabric-padded high chair, I was determined to find something that cleaned up a bit easier. The reviews say this one is a breeze to clean since the tray fits in the dishwasher and everything is wipeable. Bonus points that it rolls around and only has one leg for toddlers and clumsy mothers to trip over.
12. OXO Perfect Pull Wipes Dispenser - I remembered reading about this on several blogs but forgot about it until and my friend Erika recommended that I add it to our registry. People swear it makes life so much easier when changing the hundreds of diapers we are about to change.

So there ya go- definitely not an all encompassing list, but just a few of the highlights that we stumbled across in our research. Hopefully someone out there finds it as helpful as I found other bloggers' lists!

26 Weeks

How far along?  26 weeks.

How big is the baby this week?  Green onion. I'm not sure how you go from a rutabaga to a green onion?  These updates seem to be getting a little sketchy.

Total Weight Gain?  15 pounds.

Maternity Clothes? Yes. I had to get some warmer weather clothes for Hawaii, so I'm hoping that maybe I'll be good to go for these last three months. I'm also trying to only buy things I can wear afterwards (i.e. drawstring instead of maternity pants).

Best Moment of the Week? I have to say that being pregnant at the beach is actually kind of nice. Not being able to imbibe in some adult beverages aside, the lack of having to worry about what you look like in a bikini is pretty damn fun. I sure did have a macadamia nut cookie & strawberry ice cream sandwich while laying by the pool. I definitely would have NEVER even considered that not pregnant.

Den and I also celebrated my 32nd birthday with dinner on a patio overlooking the ocean. They had a couple of guys out there playing string instruments but rather than the classics, they were playing things like Michael Jackson and Metallica. Kind of Vitamin String Quartet-ish but live.  It was so nice and peaceful- a perfect birthday dinner.

Trouble Sleeping?  Slept like a baby all week.

Miss Anything?  Pina Coladas with rum. And sushi. Our hotel had a Morimoto sushi restaurant and I obviously couldn't eat the majority of it. Luckily, I was able to settle for some shrimp tempura rolls and Den got his sushi fix for the time being.

Movement?  Tons. It was fun to lay around all week with a bare belly because you really see every kick and movement.

Food Cravings? The above mentioned ice cream sandwiches.

Belly Button - In or Out?  In.

Symptoms? Just hungry pretty much all the time.

Wedding Ring - Off or on? On

Happy or Moody?  Happy, of course! Vacation will do that to ya.

Looking Forward to?  Attacking our to do list now that we are home. This trip was sort of our last hurrah before sh*t gets real. Up first on the list is painting the room which is currently burnt orange.

25 Weeks

**I held this post back because I didn't want to yell from the rooftops that we would be gone all week, but now that we are back, here is the latest update!

How far along?  25 weeks (Photo is while we were on our trip- almost 26 weeks).

How big is the baby this week?  Rutabaga. I know this is a food, but I can't say that I've ever actually seen one. It also says that he's about a pound and a half and will start gaining his baby fat and getting hair. I'm kind of hoping he gets his dad's coloring and we end up with a little blondie.

Total Weight Gain?  14 pounds. To be honest with you, I'm kind of shocked that this number isn't higher. I definitely don't share my husband's affinity for healthy food and I can't say that pregnancy has done much to change that. Give me carbs and cheese all. day. long. and I'm a happy girl.

Maternity Clothes? Yes. I luckily started packing for our trip early which was a little challenging since everything I've worn up to this point has been layers and winter clothes. And shorts of any type- especially draw string- are IMPOSSIBLE to find in early February. Thank goodness for girlfriends that are my size.

Best Moment of the Week?  Finally getting the nursery cleaned out! That room has been our dirty little secret of the house since we moved in. We stuffed all the boxes we didn't want to deal with in there and happily shut the door behind us.  That was great until we found out we had a baby on the way and would have to deal with it sooner rather than later. Being at the starting line instead of far behind it is a good feeling!

And non-baby related, celebrating my birthday with my sweet parents before we left for our trip.  We had a wonderful dinner at Jaspers. I have dreams about their gouda mac n cheese. Mmm....

Trouble Sleeping?  I've started having some pretty weird dreams and last night Den woke me up laughing in his sleep- literally, laughing out loud at some joke he dreamt. I couldn't get mad because it was pretty funny in itself.

Miss Anything?  Wine. I doubt the answer to this question will change for the duration.

Movement?  Mostly in the evenings. Although he will give my bladder a sharp jab every now and then during the day. Everyone talks about "flutters" but this kid feels more like a ninja.

Food Cravings? I finally got my donut! Den went out and got some for me last weekend. Some more of that gouda mac n cheese also sounds pretty good right about now.

Belly Button - In or Out?  In.

Symptoms? Just hungry pretty much all the time.

Wedding Ring - Off or on? On

Happy or Moody?  Happy for the most part. A little moody today, but happy in general.

Looking Forward to?  I know I said this last week, but laying on the beach for a week with nothing to do but drink faux pina coladas and get some sun on my enormous white belly.  I tried on a bikini this week and came out and asked Den "Do I look like a whale?" to which he responded "No, you look like a skinny girl who's pregnant." Smart man. Let's be honest- there was only one correct answer to that question regardless.

January in Pictures

I haven't done one of these since July! Crazy! But I'm excited to pick it back up again with the new year. Here was our January!

If it's below 50 degrees outside, odds are good that our little fireplace is on full blast. S'mores are my favorite way to take advantage.

Meeting sweet Baby Lucy for the first time. She was a doll and it was great practice.

This guy held Baby Lucy like she was a ticking time bomb which he attributed to "the way I handed her to him." Looks like we'll have to work on his form a bit before May.

Cheers-ing to our one month anniversary.  (Don't worry- mine was either cider or Den finished it off for me.)

Test driving the stroller we picked out. I have to say that this is probably the one piece of baby gear that I am most excited about. I read probably 100 reviews and can tell you the exact specs on it. I love that it will convert to a double and that you can turn the seat around to face you. I'm not going to lie- I will probably take this sucker on a few test walks even before we have a baby to put in it.

We FINALLY got chairs for our dining room! My parents got them for us for Christmas, so we had them as our first dinner guests to say thank you.

Is there anything cuter than tiny baby clothes awaiting their owner's arrival? Love.

We also finally got a grill and love it so much that Den will brave the elements to use it. Luckily we have had a few spring-like days sprinkled in between the freezing temps. Gotta love Texas.

 21 week bump.

 Celebrating Alisa's birthday.

 My handsome date.

This guy loves the fire even more than we do.

Celebrating Jules' birthday (a solid two months late).

Apparently I forgot to open the thingie before lighting a fire. Sweet of him to do that instead of gripe at me.

24 Weeks

In an effort to remember these short-lived days of being pregnant and all the fun (good and bad) that goes along with it, I am going to document with the obligatory weekly updates. Everything is going really well aside from your typical aches and pains from time to time. We know it's a boy and he's set to arrive in late May!

How far along?  Here's the part where we out ourselves.  :)  I was 24 Weeks as of last Thursday!  I started writing this post last week, so we're going to do two in the first week to catch up. Crazy to think that we're already six months in!

How big is the baby this week?  Ear of Corn

Total Weight Gain?  I was +10 pounds at my last appointment.  I guess I should start weighing myself at home to keep a little better eye on this.  Especially now that I'm eating anything that doesn't move.

Maternity Clothes? Definitely pants- I can still wear pretty much all the shirts in my closet but prefer the maternity tops since they are more snug and make me look pregnant rather than whale-ish.

Best Moment of the Week?  Getting a bunch of hand me downs from my friend Jules who has two little guys.  He already has a solid start to his wardrobe thanks to her and a few 40% off online sales at Gap!

Trouble Sleeping?  I definitely struggled with sleep in the very beginning but it's gotten MUCH better. I know this will be short lived though so I'm trying to soak it all in while I can!

Miss Anything?  Booze. Superbowl Sunday and beer go hand in hand, but thankfully O'Douls is a surprisingly decent substitute.

Movement? Yes! After a few weeks of "was that it??" I finally started feeling him with confidence around week 22. Den can feel him as well and every once in awhile you can even see little nudges on the outside. SO WEIRD!

Food Cravings? Cookies all day every day and this week I've been craving a donut like nobody's business. I still haven't fulfilled that little urge, but hopefully soon.

Belly Button - In or Out?  In, but I wouldn't be surprised if it pops out by the time this is all over.

Symptoms? Not really!  I little bit of a back ache now and again, but I've been feeling really good lately!

Wedding Ring - Off or on? On

Happy or Moody?  Happy

Looking Forward to?  Vacation! We had planned on going on a delayed honeymoon in January and just never got around to booking it. I finally pulled the trigger so we are looking forward to soaking up some sun and enjoying what is likely to be our last long trip for quite awhile!

BIG- tiny- News!

SURPRISE!

Ha! This is probably the worst kept secret ever, but we're having a baby!!

We are over the moon excited about our little "surprise" due this summer (don't do the math).  Okay, you're already doing the math. I'll save you the trouble- it doesn't quite work out. We apparently celebrated our engagement a little too much. Not exactly the timing we had planned, but at the same time we couldn't be happier.

We are busy, busy trying to get ready (or as ready as you can possibly be).  I've been researching all the gear, reading the books, and doing my best to look the other way when someone opens a bottle of wine in my presence.

I really want to preserve some of the memories of being pregnant and keep friends and family in the loop so I'll be trying my best to do a better job of updating the blog. The last half of 2013 was pitiful, but between buying the house, getting engaged, moving our office, getting married, and getting pregnant- I somehow crammed five of the most life changing events into six months AND managed to keep most of my sanity. So I'm giving myself a hall pass there.

Can't wait to share more details with y'all soon!
