39 Weeks

How far along?  39 Weeks.

How big is the baby this week?  Baby Center says he is is the size of a mini watermelon(!!) And weighs a bit over 7 pounds.

Total Weight Gain?  32 pounds.

Maternity Clothes?  Only thing that fits these days...

Best Moment of the Week?  Finally starting to talk to our doctor about an end game was pretty surreal.  And Baby G continues to be spoiled- we received sweet gifts from two of his aunties and some adorable burp cloths from a family member.
Den and I also had a great dinner and a movie date night (Neighborhood Services / The Other Woman) and a fancy brunch with my parents at Fearings- getting in all these non-infant friendly things while we can!

Trouble Sleeping?  Touch and go. Today I woke up at 6am and couldn't go back to sleep so I started organizing my closet into sections that were
postpartum/nursing friendly with anything snug getting pushed to the back. I figure that if I have the most flattering options front and center it will lead to less meltdowns when getting dressed. Although- who am I kidding? We all know it's going to be tank tops and sweat pants for a good while.

Miss Anything?  Wine. I've started restocking the wine supply mainly because I'm so excited about the idea of having more than half a glass. However, you do get some funny looks when loading up your target cart with wine at 10 months pregnant. I almost told the cashier that it wasn't for now that I was just preparing, but I figured that might make it worse. Damn
judgey people.

Movement?  Slowing down quite a bit which I've been reassured is normal. And not as many jabs to the sternum so *maybe* that's a sign that he's a little lower.

Food Cravings?  Nothing crazy. Iced tea/lemonade. Hazelnut shortbread cookies from Trader Joe's... although I don't think it's fair to classify those as a craving since they are a staple in our house, pregnant or not.

Belly Button - In or Out?  Outie and then some.

Symptoms?  I'm starting to feel some pressure from time to time, but nothing other than that.

Wedding Ring - Off or on?  On, but snug.

Happy or Moody?  Pretty happy this week. Trying to enjoy these last few days.

Looking Forward to?  Obviously the same as last week- his arrival!  I think we're as ready as we can possibly be. I have my contraction timer app downloaded, the bags are packed, and the car is getting washed today. I don't think I can possibly nest anymore than I already have. My friend Jules came over to see the nursery and commented that she's never seen my house so organized. Granted, I'm no Monica Geller so there's not exactly a high precedent to begin with, but I'll take the organization inspiration wherever I can get it.

Baby Thoughts

39 weeks, four days pregnant.

Three days left to go- in theory.

This dude seems pretty content right where he is. No contractions, no major signs of labor, just the same old story, only larger.

I have to say that this is one of the strangest feelings in the world. I feel like I am standing in the middle of the road waiting to get hit dead on by a Mack truck. Granted it's a Mack truck full of puppies and nutella and all the things I love but still a Mack truck.

I know that probably makes me sound like a horrible person to compare this little blessing to being run over by a truck- and please make no mistake- we are SO EXCITED, but the whole concept of your entire life changing so dramatically in an instant is very bizarre. Especially when you have no idea when that instant will occur.

Everyone asks me if I'm over it, and it's such a hard question to answer. I'm uncomfortable and I'm ready to meet him, but I'm also not "over it" quite yet. I think being 32 and watching a lot of friends go through this gives you a certain amount of foresight to appreciate both the before and after. I don't have the luxury of "ignorance is bliss" because pretty much all my friends have kids and I see firsthand how much it changes your life. So instead of complaining about being uncomfortable, I'm trying to savor the kicks and the fact that I can spend an entire afternoon taking a nap if I want to or the fact that I can meander around Target for three hours without having to worry about anyone else. I know that's all quickly coming to an end, but luckily it will be replaced with something even better.

I'm really excited to watch Den interact with him and to see what he looks like. I know this is weird, but I hope he has that newborn old man look when he first arrives. And obviously healthy and happy is Goal #1, but I am rooting for a little mini-Dennis. I would love it if he had his skin tone and blonde hair, but more importantly, his kindness and patience. Especially the latter since we all know he's not going to be getting that from me.

Despite the thousands of thoughts that run through your head at this stage of the game, I think more than anything else we feel grateful. Considering the fact that this wasn't something we planned on happening so soon, we are very grateful for the ability to trust that this is what was supposed to happen, grateful to our families for their support and love despite us jumping the gun a bit, grateful for a relatively easy and healthy pregnancy, and grateful to be given this opportunity that so many people (especially at our age) either aren't given or struggle immensely to obtain. Even though it felt like quite a curve ball (or Mack truck) when we found out I was pregnant, now that we are less than a week out from his official arrival- I can't imagine life any other way.

Three days and counting. Please keep us in your thoughts as we begin the roller coaster ride of bringing this (now very full term) little guy into the world. Life is about to get interesting!

38 Weeks

How far along?  38 weeks. Which.... how did that happen?!? It's absolutely crazy to me to think that we only have two more weeks tops before we're actually responsible for this little person.

How big is the baby this week?  Baby Center says he is is the size of a leek.  So about 19.5 inches long and roughly 6.8 pounds.

Total Weight Gain?  31 pounds.

Maternity Clothes?  Yes. I think things are starting to get a little snug since Den has asked me a couple times why I'm wearing a normal shirt when it is most definitely maternity.

Best Moment of the Week?  Knowing that we are about to be home-bound for awhile, I'm trying to get in a few solid date nights at some of my favorites. We had a great dinner at Hattie's on Tuesday and then went back to my old 'hood with friends Friday night to Victor Tangos. It was fun to get out of our bubble, get a little dressed up, and be amongst the youngsters for an evening.

Trouble Sleeping?  Yes. A little better this week, but still not great.

Miss Anything?  All my cute summer sandals that I can't wear because I'm unable to fasten the straps without assistance.

Movement?  All the time. He is usually pretty rambunctious and was a little more quiet yesterday which freaked me out a bit, but he'll move every time I start thinking I haven't felt him in awhile. So thank you, kiddo, for reassuring me just when I need it.

Food Cravings?  Nothing too weird. Dried strawberries, chocolate, milkshakes. Food in general. :)

Belly Button - In or Out?  Outie and then some.

Symptoms?  No labor symptoms whatsoever. Everyone keeps asking me if I've started having contractions and nada. I'm assuming I'll know the first time I get one?

Wedding Ring - Off or on?  On for the time being, but snug.

Happy or Moody?  50/50.

Looking Forward to?  His arrival?? We're patiently waiting but he seems pretty cozy, so we'll see if it's this week or next week. I would REALLY prefer not to get to 41 weeks. I am certainly not an "au naturel" kind of a girl- I'm 110% on board the epidural train, BUT I would really prefer not to induce if I don't have to. I just think everyone is better off when he comes when he's ready as opposed to me evicting him. However, I am ultimately leaving that decision up to the pros. If my doctor says it's time to induce, induction it is.

Baby G's Nursery

So before I share Baby G's nursery, I have to show you the "before" pictures. As I said in a previous post, this was an unused room in our house that quickly turned into the place where we stashed all the junk we didn't want to deal with.

Here is the listing photo from the previous owner:
The fact that it was his workout room contributed to our decision to continue the wood floors in here. The thought of our baby crawling around on this guys old, sweaty carpet just grossed me out.

It then looked like this after we moved in:
I warned you. Hoarders will be calling any moment now...

 Then this (mid paint):

 Finally painted with new flooring:

And now done and ready for our guy!

The only thing we are missing now is a changing pad cover- The blue cover is actually an aden + anais blanket that I am using as a substitute until the real one arrives from etsy.

We'll obviously fill the frames with photos of the wee one once he makes his debut.

Still working on filling these up as well. We may do photos of him or just more artwork as we find things we like.

We'll hang something above his crib and probably get a rug once I find something that works in here that isn't ridiculously expensive.

I'm so relieved to have it all done. Despite not having any sort of real vision for the room, I'm really pleased with the way it came together.  I wanted it to be happy and clean. I think we got the happy from the colors and the clean from the new floors and a fresh coat of paint.

In case anyone else out there is looking for nursery inspiration, here are a few links to things we used in his room:

White Gallery Frames - Amazon

My biggest piece of advice for decorating a nursery on a budget is to pick out what you like and then check on the items online often.  The beauty of pregnancy is that you have some time to wait it out and try to get the best deal possible. We picked out most of the big purchases early on and then I jumped on them one by one when I found a good sale. By doing this we saved over $100 on the rocker, $75 on the crib, $60 on the dresser, and probably another $100 by using Ebates on everything. It adds up quickly!

Now we just need a kiddo to occupy the space- it's still so weird to me to think that he will be crawling around on that floor in a matter of months!

March & April in Pictures

Got a little behind so I'm combining March & April!

Ben & Jerry's run after dinner. Gotta love being a clich√©.

Trying on his "I'm the Daddy" shirt that he got as a shower gift.

Snuggled up right where he is NOT supposed to be snuggled.

This is one of the fun surprises when we took out the carpet/baseboards during the remodeling- carpenter ants aka ants that eat your house à la termites. It could have been much worse, but how DISGUSTING is that? The thought that those things were crawling around underneath the carpet while we were living there for the last eight months really grosses me out.

Knee deep in the chaos.

Finally starting the floors!

Annnd celebrating being done!

I think I had us putting the crib together before the wood glue even dried.

Flip cup at Alex's bachelorette party.

Ranch party.

 West Texas sunset.

The bride's mom got me a package of Depends as a joke to wear underneath my bridesmaid's dress in case my water broke during the wedding. Thank goodness there was no need for that, but the girls did have fun modeling them.

Testing out the stroller.

Packing Baby G's hospital bag.

Taking a nap with two out of my three guys.

Date night at the Arboretum.

Rangers game.

Always lovely when your husband comes dragging in snakes from the yard.

Den likes to say that Moose is spoiled and not well behaved, so I always love it when I catch the two of them having a moment.

37 Weeks

How far along?  37 weeks.

How big is the baby this week?  Baby Center says he is is the size of a stalk of swiss chard.  So about 19 inches long and roughly 6 1/3 pounds.

Total Weight Gain?  30 pounds.  This was my "goal" weight for the entire pregnancy, so it looks like I will definitely be going over, but I'm still pretty comfortable with that number.  I figure pregnancy is just not the time to worry about what the scale says.

Maternity Clothes?  Yes. Busted out some of those stretchy elastic-waist shorts this weekend- it's definitely starting to warm up in Dallas so this dude can come anytime as far as I'm concerned!

Best Moment of the Week?  One of my best friends (and old roomie) got married! It was such a great weekend celebrating her and her husband. I got in lots of time with my girls and the wedding was even fun sans booze- that's when you know it's a good party! Baby G was probably wondering what in the hell was going on all weekend because I don't think he's been poked or prodded as much throughout my entire pregnancy as he was over the weekend.

Trouble Sleeping?  Yes, not fun.

Miss Anything?  Having a glass of champagne in my hand at wedding receptions.

Movement?  Constantly. I'm starting to get a little sad thinking about not feeling him kick anymore. That's definitely one of the more fun parts of this pregnancy business.

Food Cravings?  Snickers Easter Eggs. I plowed through all the ones in our Easter basket pretty quickly and now I've been craving them like crazy. They are so much better than regular snickers!

Belly Button - In or Out?  Outie and then some.

Symptoms?  Achey everything. Insomnia. Needing a crane to get myself up from any sort of reclined position.

Wedding Ring - Off or on?  On for the time being, but snug.

Happy or Moody?  Pretty happy this week. We finished everything we HAVE to get done, so now we're just checking the extra stuff off the to do list. That alone has been a pretty good feeling especially since it makes me feel like I can put my feet up a bit and actually rest a little these last few weeks.

Looking Forward to?  My first Mother's Day! I got flowers last week just in case he decided to make an early appearance.  Other than that, getting in a few more solid date nights this week and maybe catching a movie.

36 Weeks

Kind of sad how I've gone from having Den take the photos every week, to taking them myself in the bathroom, to snapping a quick selfie in the elevator between meetings. You can definitely tell we're at the end of the road!

How far along?  36 weeks.

How big is the baby this week?  Baby Center says he is is the size of a head of romaine.  So about 18 1/2 inches long and roughly 6 pounds.

Total Weight Gain?  29 pounds.

Maternity Clothes?  Yes. I noticed a small tear in one of my pairs of maternity pants. Apparently I'm even starting to outgrow the super stretchy elastic panels.

Best Moment of the Week?  We had our second shower and I was able to meet a lot of my MIL's friends that have known Den since he was little.  Lots of good stories and Baby G was hooked up once again. This kid could go through three outfits a day for his first three months of life and not repeat anything. I also used our registry completion discount to wrap up all the loose ends so I think I can say with confidence that after this week, we have everything we need!

Trouble Sleeping?  Yes, yes, yes. My right hand is constantly going numb and waking me up (weird??) and I have to get up 1-2x a night to go the bathroom. Why mother nature makes it so hard to sleep during the last month before a tiny, screaming, nocturnal human arrives is beyond me. Cruel.

Miss Anything?  My back not hurting.

Movement?  All the time. I just got a swift jab to the ribs as I was typing that.

Food Cravings?  I was really craving a cheeseburger the other day. I'm not a huge burger girl, so that was a little odd. Odd but so delicious.

Belly Button - In or Out?  Outie and then some.

Symptoms?  Achey back. No sleep. Full on waddling at this point.

Wedding Ring - Off or on?  On for the time being, but snug.

Happy or Moody?  Probably a little on the moody side this week. I'm having a hard time with the whole to do list vs. social interaction thing. I know we need to be responsible and get things done, but I also know we're going to be home-bound for awhile so it's really hard to manage our time accordingly. And I'm having to force myself to slow down a little bit which is hard for me as well with this ticking time bomb in my body. I fell down the steps in front of our house yesterday because I was rushing out of the house carrying a box of baby returns. Not good. Luckily, I caught myself with my hands and was only a little scraped up, but I need to realize that I'm carrying a bowling ball with me and am not as mobile as I'm used to being.

Looking Forward to?  My brother and his crew are coming in town this weekend and my old roomie is getting married which means all my college friends are in town as well! It should be a busy but great weekend. Please pray that my bridesmaid dress still fits come Saturday. I may bring a black sheet as a back up plan- maybe we could fashion a maternity toga out of it? Seems fitting since I'll be with my Tech girls...
